TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE BLACKPOOL DUNGEON
Halloween will be here before we know it, so there’s no time to waste when it comes to getting your plans in place for a truly spook-tacular night. Stuck for inspiration and always wanted to have a gander at the delights of The Blackpool Tower Dungeon? Here’s what you can expect…
As you wait for your turn to be plunged into the depths of the dungeon, you’ll be entertained by our Jester, who has some opinions about those hailing from Yorkshire… Brace yourself non-Lancastrians! The rickety (but totally sturdy *wink*) lift takes you down to where the rest of the creatures live, and you’ll begin your journey around the dungeon.
Once all the scaredy-cats have been weaned out, you’ll meet a monk of Lytham Priory, who’ll tell you all about the history of the Fylde Coast and how it felt when the plague spread across the land. Infected? Off to the doctor with you!
Greeted by the his trusty Assistant while you await the Doctor’s arrival, you’ll learn about all the “cures” that people swore by during the 14th Century, and some of you might even get to experience them first hand!
Two of the most, erm, interesting characters on your journey throughout history are the Torturer and the Judge. We definitely wouldn’t want to meet them on a winter’s night down a dark alley! Be put through your paces as the Torturer shows you all his nifty gadgets for causing pain, but don’t misbehave, because he has a short temper!
If you survive the torture chamber, get ready to be put on trial for all sorts of hilarious misdemeanors! Heaven help you if you giggle because the Judge doesn’t have time for fun and games. Ever wanted to see your best mate on trial for being a drunkard? Now’s your chance!
Feeling thoroughly embarrassed, you’ll be escorted into the Labyrinth, where you’re left to fend for yourselves. Only the bravest (or the stupidest) will make it through, and you’ll be faced with your greatest fear - your own reflection! If you aren’t too terrified after that point, you’ll go on to meet a soldier who fought in the War of the Roses, and dive down into Skippool Creek caves, where the smugglers squabble over who’s a traitor and who can be trusted. Beware of Captain Johnson, who’s got quite the temper on him…
If you’ve still got an ounce of courage left in you, your second to last stop will involve visiting the Pendle Witches and feeling the wrath of the gallows on The Drop Dead: Drop Ride. Have you ever wanted to know what it felt like to be hung as a witch? Of course you have! Now’s your chance to get fully submersed in the action and experience what they went through after being accused of murder by magic.
Thankfully, you do have the option to leave the dungeon, unlike so many before you, and once you’ve meandered your way through the tales from Lancashire’s murky past, you can stop for a pint in the Hangman’s Tavern. Free from the clutches of The Blackpool Tower Dungeon, you can relax safe in the knowledge that the creatures are down below and you’re cosy in the pub, unless it’s a Friday night, of course...
We’re slightly biased, but it certainly sounds like the perfect place to spend your next Halloween, birthday, heck why not just get married there? Click here to book.
