A replacement for the Silver Tower is being sought as the real thing goes to London exhibition!
The stunning, replica silver model of the Blackpool Tower will be travelling to London on 26 June to join the Blackpool display in an English Heritage exhibition at the Quadriga Gallery in Wellington Arch.
The Tower is so well loved by staff at The Blackpool Tower, that they are on the hunt for a brand new model made by members of the public to replace it on the first floor outside the Ballroom.
The five foot silver Tower has been a part of the Tower experience for so long, that staff are keen for members of the public to help build a replacement.
They are looking for models from local schools, youth groups, clubs and societies plus local businesses, which can be made from anything from pipe cleaners to newspaper to rubbish from the beach.
Kate Shane, The Blackpool Tower General Manager, said: “There’ll be a gaping hole when the silver Tower is sent to London as it is well loved by everyone at the Tower. So we’re really keen to have something take its place whilst it is away.
“We are putting a call out to members of the public to have a go at creating their own replica Tower to take its place. They can get as creative as they want and use any material they please, as long as it fits the correct dimensions. It will then take pride of
place on display until the real thing returns.”
The display case, which needs to be filled, measures 63” by 50” by 36” and the best replica created by the public will go on display until 1 September when the real Silver Tower returns.
This competition has now ended, winners have been selected and details can be found here
