Girlfriend takes leap of faith and proposes at the top of The Blackpool Tower
February 29, which comes every four years, is famous for women proposing to their partners and this year one lucky man was in
for an extra special proposal – 518 feet in the air at The Blackpool Tower Eye.
To make the day even extra special, the words “Will You Marry Me?” were written in giant letters in the sand on Blackpool beach hundreds of feet below the couple.
Sharon Fuller from Blackpool, aged 31, has been dating her partner Simon Dunkerley for nearly six years and decided to make the leap of faith on this special day and couldn’t think of a better location to propose.
She said: “Simon and I have shared so many treasured memories so far and I thought by getting down on one knee today at
the top of The Blackpool Tower would be a great way to add to those memories.
“I couldn’t think of anywhere else in Blackpool as iconic as the Tower so it was the perfect location to propose to Simon. He’s
travelled all over the UK and chosen to settle here in Blackpool so it is the ideal location to get engaged – I just hope he says yes!
“There are absolutely stunning views out over the coastline from the top of The Blackpool Tower and the words written on the sand below gave my proposal that extra romantic touch.”
Kate Shane, The Blackpool Tower General Manager said “Leap year has been famed for hundreds years with women proposing to their partners and no doubt dozens of women up and down the country will be taking the leap of faith and popping the question – albeit not as high in the air as Sharon.”
